My Annual Discipline Challenge
I started a run streak in 2019.
At first I was afraid that I wouldn’t be able to see it through. But I took it one day at a time and soon I was forgetting to count the days. Before I knew it I was at 20 days. And again at 32 and then at 45….and when 60 come along, I felt like I could do this for another 60 days.
The last streak I did I wanted to continue for 100 days. I didn’t, because, truth be told, I became lazy.
Here are the rules:
- Run or walk 2km.
- And the catch: EVERY DAY.
- For 60 days.
- No excuses.
- The only way you break the rules is if you are sick. Not tired. SICK and physically incapable of doing it.
I have done my streak in parking areas, on lodge grounds, in wind, in rain, when everything within me did not want to go.
What I learnt in turn was, I can do anything I put my mind to!
I had different emotions running through me, though…
Runsteak #1
On 11 September 2020, I finished my 60 day Runstreak! #runmyassoff
2kms every day for 60 days. No excuses.
I went through so many emotions.
Not feeling up for it.
Tiredness.
Being in another town.
Confined spaces.
Unknown territory.
The dark.
Stress.
Regardless of all of that, I still went every single day. And made no excuses. Stopping or giving up wasn’t an option. During this time my running shoes became my most prized possession. And until today, going forward, they remain so.
Today I started another run streak. Consistency is key, in everything we do. For every goal we have.
#Runstreak2.0
2km. 60 days. No excuses
Runstreak #2
For 60 days I consistently ran or walked 2km a day.
Some days I was alone. Other days I had company (soooo grateful for the company!). Some days I really did not want to go. But I went anyway. Regardless of where I was or what the circumstances were.
Made no excuses.
No negotiations with myself.
Had no clever tricks.
Although I didn’t reach my goal of doing 2km in 10min, I came pretty close. The weather had been terrible in Swakopmund that week, and I felt very disappointed. If you know me, you know I hate exercising in the heat or when the sun is out.
I bask in the beauty of the fact that I made a decision and I completed the challenge!
In addition I rediscovered our treadmill.
Thank you @bevhenckert and @clbeets for your company.
Thank you @sfhartung for completing this challenge with me. I enjoyed doing this with you.
It’s my second run streak hence #Runstreak2.0 in 2021, and I’ll do it again.
People, a lot can be said about self-discipline! I live by it. As I continue to challenge myself and push my own boundaries, I remain super grateful that I can.
That I am able to.
I don’t have a date yet for the next streak, but as soon as I do, I will share my feelings with you weekly!
