Setting goals in all aspects of our lives is very important. It is so rewarding achieving goals, small and big, and these achievements motivate us to continue striving towards being better and doing better. Challenges help us grow as individuals, teach us resilience and a strong work ethic. Yet, goals should not overwhelm us. I personally write down a list of everything I am working towards, then create two groups – smaller, micro goals, and bigger, long term goals. These groups I then again list in order from highest to lowest priority.
Goals should be realistic and achievable. If we set the bar too high, we may become demotivated more easily as the road to success is not always smooth sailing. Goals should also be specific. This allows us to be able to focus and work towards achieving our goals with clarity, purpose and direction.
Here are two of my favourite goal setting related quotes:
‘’If you don’t design your own life plan, chances are you’ll fall into someone else’s plan. And guess what they have planned for you? Not much.‘‘ – Jim Rohn
‘’A goal properly set is halfway reached.’’ – Zig Ziglar
Once you have set your goals, the real work starts. Commit and take action. If along the way you find that your goals are not attainable or plans have changed which are out of your control, ADJUST and ADAPT, but NEVER GIVE UP.
